The changing times of exfoliation

The surface of our skin is made up of dead skin cells.  They are there as part of our barrier defence system, protecting us from the outside environment. 

Why then does the cosmetic industry tell us that we must scrub them off twice a week?

Over exfoliating leads to uneven skin texture and impaired barrier defence. 

Too often I’ve seen skin damaged by over exfoliating.  Some manufacturers recommend daily use of an exfoliator.  Under a microscope the skins surface actually looks scratched – like an ice skating ring.

Watch the tele or look at what’s on the supermarket shelves and you’ll be convinced the secret to
clean, youthful skin lies in twice daily use of foams, scrubs and astringent cleansers.

It’s complete rubbish. In reality, most of us should never touch such damaging cleansers – let alone
that frequently.

Research tells us only 3.4 percent of New Zealanders have skin oily enough to warrant the
treatments made popular by advertising.

Cleansing Survey. Which One Are You?

In a recent survey of cleansing habits in New Zealand, it was found that 62% of people were using the wrong facial cleanser.

14% were using a facial cleanser along the right lines for their skin type

7% were only facial cleansing in the morning.

7% only facial cleansing at night.

10% didn’t use any king of facial cleansing medium at all.  Just water.

The survey was taken from people that were generally interested in the condition of their skin.

If the word ‘exercise’ automatically makes you want to yawn or switch off, then listen up!  The best piece of advice I can give you on this tip is, make sure you find something that you enjoy.  If you like walking then do that.  Go and explore different places to go walking, keep it interesting.  Join a group.  If you find Kayaking fun rather than a chore, make the effort to join a group, or rent the gear.  Do you enjoy dancing?  Whether you can throw some shapes or not, join a class.
