Detox Tip 1. Water
To understand why you’re doing this and what effect it will have on your skin please read my previous blog ‘What Has Detox Got to do With Your Skin?.’
Water is your body’s most important nutrient. To quote Dr. Erno Laszlo “Water…if it weren’t already invented, I would have had to invent it myself.”
Water is involved in every bodily function, and makes up 70- 75% of your total body weight. Water helps you to maintain body temperature, metabolize body fat, aids in digestion, lubricates and cushions organs, transports nutrients, and flushes toxins from your body. Your blood is approximately 90% water and is responsible for transporting nutrients and energy to tissues and for taking waste from tissues.
This should be an east tip for this time of year as we naturally want to drink more fluids during the summer months. Make that fluid water and try to get at least 2 litres of it a day. If you exercise or are overweight you will need to drink more than 2 litres. If you drink caffeinated drinks throughout the day like tea of coffee, you need to drink the equivalent in water to cancel that out on top of your 2 litres a day.
I find the easiest way to do this is to have a litre bottle of water at home, and a litre bottle at work. Then I just make sure I drink both of them each day.
I can’t stress how important drinking water is for your body and your skin. If you can work this into your lifestyle then all the other detox tips I have will work to their full potential and your skin care regime will also be optimised.
