You may have seen SPF’s (Sun Protection Factors) reaching the heady heights of 80 or even 100, but trust me, an SPF 15 or 30 has the same protection power as the higher numbers.  The great thing is that the chemical content is lower with an SPF 15 or 30 than it is anything above the 30 mark.  You should top up your sun screen every two hours to have full sun protection, whether that be an SPF 15 or a 50.  So why would you bother with the higher number if there are more chemicals present?  The answer is don’t bother.  You may actually be doing your skin more harm than good with the high chem

I can’t let you go off for the summer without giving you just a little lecture on being sun smart.  Obviously covering up from the sun during the hottest part of the day (11am to 3pm) is the best way to be sun smart and avoid getting burnt this summer, but this isn’t always appropriate.  To use a sun screen is the best way of being sun safe and feeling free to enjoy the summer.

Vitamin D deficiency is a growing problem in our modern society.  Nurses are seeing more cases of Rickets, the age old bone softening disease that was thought to be caused by the fashion of covering the whole body in clothing so as not to catch disease and poor nutrition.  Mothers passed on the deficiency of vitamin D to their babies.
